The Pacific Energy sponsored- Fiji Junior tennis team will be banking on their four Pacific Games players as they participate in two Australian competitions, with the first one starting tomorrow.

The 12-member contingent included Raynal Singh, Kunal Singh, Sumeet Sharma and Krishan Raju.

They will compete at the Victorian Grasscourt Championships (Margaret Court Cup) from January 9-13 and the 2015 Victorian Junior Grasscourt Championships at the Wodonga Tennis Centre from January 14 – 18.

National coach Krishneel Kumar said the players have settled well and know the importance of this tour.

“This is the first tour for the year and we aim to set the bar high,” he said.

“This is the second time Fiji is represented in the tournament and by looking at it we should be perform better as we have finished runners- up last year,” said Kumar.

“Most of the players have returned from the Vanuatu tour last month so we got four players that are part of the Pacific Games squad and we have upcoming players as well in the Under-10, U12, U16, U18 and above.”

This is Kumar’s third time to lead a delegation of young tennis players for international duties. “The level of all the players is the same and we are competing in the Australian gold level tournaments and it will be tough.”
