Military Tribute To Vaniqi Today In Lautoka

The Commander of the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Forces will lead tributes today for Permanent Secretary for Sugar, Manasa Vaniqi.

Also joining him will be representatives from the territorial Force (TF), the Fiji Navy led by Captain John Fox and the territorial reserve force.

Land Force Commander, Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho said the military delegation would be presenting their reguregu (tribute) at 5pm today at the Vaniqi’s Lautoka residence.

“The Commander will lead the reguregu and will be accompanied by the senior officers of the military and Fiji Navy with the TF,” he said.

Mr Vaniqi was a member of the territorial force before he passed away. Colonel Qiliho said Mr Vaniqi had an excellent and distinguished carreer as a territorial force soldier and as a civil servant.

He said he would be missed by all those at the RFMF, including the Fiji Navy and the TF.

Colonel Qiliho said to honour Mr Vaniqi the military would be part of the funeral.

“There will be no military funeral but we will provide pallbearers, a bugler and a firing party,” he said.

This, he said, would just fall short of a military funeral as the RFMF Band was not included.

The bugler would play the Last Post to mark the end of the working day for Mr Vaniqi.

This would also signify his passing from this world to the next.

Mr Vaniqi was originally from Dreketi, Wailevu East in Cakaudrove. The reguregu starts today and the funeral will be tomorrow.
