More Drug Raids: Police

You can run, but you can’t hide, Police chief of operations, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rusiate Tudravu has warned drug farmers.

More raids are planned in the next days after the recent discovery and confiscation of 1000 plants believed to be marijuana in the Northern Division on Tuesday.

ACP Tudravu is keeping drug farmers guessing as police verify their own intelligence reports from the various provinces around Fiji.

He was thankful for community support in providing tips to the police.

No stone will be left unturned says ACP Tudravu, as police with the support of the community help end drug cultivation in the country.

“We know that people are planting these and we want to show an impact on the ground that we want to put an end to drug cultivation.

“We understand that there are buyers that these farmers are selling to and we want to cut it from the root.

“We will be moving to other places next,” he said.

In 2010, the Fiji Police Force signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs to allow for co-operation between the parties to stop marijuana cultivation in villages.

In line with this, Commissioner Northern Alipate Bolalevu said drug awareness campaigns were an essential part of district meetings.

“We also have our people in the provincial office that is linked to these villages to give awareness with the Police,” Mr Bolalevu said.

The Fiji Police Force has also been lobbying for legislation to enforce the confiscation of assets bought from drug earned money.

Acting Police commissioner, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Isikeli Vuniwaqa said talks were ongoing between the relevant authorities to address this.
