The Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam School of nursing in Labasa had started its enrolment and interview sessions for first year students.

Students turned out in numbers in the second day of the interview yesterday and the institution is expecting to enrol 100 student nurses this year.

TISI chairman of recruitment board Parmod Achary said there were about 500 applications.

He said orientation for first year students would begin next Monday (January 12) once the board had selected the students. Classes would begin on January 27.

He said the demand for nursing in Labasa was high and the college aimed for another good performance this year.

“We are aiming to better our performance and keep up with our good work inorder to maintain our standards of services and education.

“We want to produce the best qualified nurses who can look after sick people.”

Mr Achary said one of the new courses was the Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery Studies.

“The course is important and they are challenged to provide the best environment and opportunities for students so they are knowledgeable, resourceful and productive workers.”
