A Republic of the Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) delegation led by Commander Brigadier-General Mosese Tikoitoga presented a ireguregu (tribute) to the late Manasa Vaniqi yesterday.

Brigadier-General Tikoitoga said that Mr Vaniqi, the Permanent Secretary for Sugar, was one of those officers who did his best in any office he held.

On behalf of the senior officers present, he thanked Mr Vaniqi for his service.

Land Force Commander Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho said, “This is one of the first funerals for 2015 and all the senior RFMF officers are present here.

“We are all here to farewell our comrade Territorial Force Lt-Col Manasa Vaniqi.”

Other senior officers present include Colonel Apakuki Kurusiga, Fiji Navy Commander Captain John Fox, Lt-Col Manoa Gadai, Lt-Col Litia Seruiratu and FijiFirst Member of Parliament Samu Vunivalu.

The late Mr Vaniqi won’t be given full military burial but will be accorded pall bearers, a bugler, and a firing party except for the RFMF band.

Meanwhile, director for sugar Viliame Gucake led the Sugar stakeholders in presenting their ireguregu as well.

He was joined by the Fiji Sugar Corporation executive chairman Abdul Khan, Sugar Cane Growers Fund CEO Sundresh Chetty, Industrial Commissioner for Sugar Industry Tribunal Timothy Brown, and TLTB general manager Alipate Qetaki.

The late Mr Vaniqi’s body was brought to spend a night at his residence at the FSC Compound in Waqadra, Nadi.

The funeral will be held today with the church service at Nasareci Methodist Church in Namaka at 11am then to the Enamanu Cemetery in Nadi for burial.
