Sugarcane farmer Ratu Save Ritova, 39, has dedicated his high productive yield to the use Aglime (Agricultural Lime) products.

Ratu Save, who owns a farm in Nagigi Settlement on the outskirts of Labasa said, “Aglime is a new and helpful scientifically proven product that improves soil acidity by bringing in the normal pH soil fertility of six to seven and producing the right environment that the cane needs.

“The process involves testing soil acidity, calculation of area used and then applying the right amount of Aglime,” he said.

“Soil chemical properties and structure improves maximising the availability of nutrients for plant growth.

“In my ten years as a farmer, I have seen the changes that Aglime has done,” he said.

Ratu Save said he could at least harvest 40 tonnes of cane per acre on a six-month basis for canes planted on a dual row method.

“Varieties of cane like Ragnar, Viwa, Galoa (8283), Vatu, LF91 and Qamea (new variety) also benefit from the use of Aglime products,” he said.

Basic Industries sells 40kg bags of Aglime for $14.
