Airline Assures Passengers Were Safe

Fiji Airways managing director and chief executive officer Stefan Pichler has said that passengers on Flight FJ 415 were not in any danger or serious harm during the flight.

The plane which was travelling from Fiji to New Zealand early Thursday morning was forced to return to Nadi because of fumes and oil smell reported in the cabin.

“At no point in time was there any concerns about the safety and security of the people in the aircraft,” Mr Pitchler said.

“We found that the fumes in the cabin was a defect electronic problem which allowed some of the fuel to get into the cabin through the air conditioning system causing the smoke,” he said.

On arrival at Nadi there was medical team on the ground just to make sure all the passengers were fine.

There were 162 passengers on the flight who were later booked on another flight that left Nadi later the same day.
