Outgoing Chinese Ambassador Huang Yong hopes there will be continuous bilateral relations between China and Fiji.

Mr Huang will be leaving the country soon, after completing his three and a half year term as China’s Ambassador to Fiji.

“I wish the Fijian Government and its people, who are our friends, to get to be ‘a better Fiji’ as soon as possible.

“And also I want to take this opportunity to convey my best wishes to the Fijian people,” Mr Huang said.

“We hope to continue to promote our bilateral good relations in future.”

He said he believed the relations between the two countries would strengthen especially after the State Visit by China’s President Xi Jingping last year.

“Fiji is a very important country in the region and President Xi Jingping’s visit shows how we pay a very important attention to this country and we have extended the funding because of the relationship between these two countries.

“I think the Fijian Government has already fulfilled the domestic protocols and processes and to set up a new Parliament and everybody now knows what Government wants to do.”

Mr Huang commended the Government for being a good example to other countries within the region because they looked up to Fiji.

“The other countries in this region look up to the Fijian Government and people and I think Fiji can play a more internal role for the region.”

He also shared that one thing he had learned while working here was that the Fijian people were very keen in accepting the reforms carried out by Government.

Meanwhile, Mr Huang confirmed that his new successor has been decided.

Chang Ping will be replacing Mr Huang as the new Chinese Ambassador to Fiji.

Mr Huang said Mr Chang was a senior diplomat that had served in North America and in the country’s foreign ministry’s Oceania Department.

Mr Chang is expected to arrive into the country by the end of this month.
