Thirty-seven-year-old Joselyn Roy, a former school librarian, has graduated to become a teacher.

Ms Roy was among 700 or so students who graduated from Lautoka Teachers College yesterday.

“Being a mother and a wife is not easy task, especially at my age, but I am so blessed to have a supporting family that has been with me during my studies for the last three years,” Mrs Roy said.

“It’s a dream come true for me since I have waited for a long time. Without my family, I would not have been where I am today.”

Ms Roy said she had to work hard to graduate.

“I had faced some difficulties. Juggling motherhood and being a wife and trying to finish my assignment which was one of my biggest challenges,” she said.

“I used to be a librarian at Xavier College where I was inspired by my husband who is a teacher.

“We discussed that I go to school and take up a teaching course. I was very blessed to get his full support and with my children’s assistance.”

Ms Roy hopes to inspire mothers who have dreams to work to help their family.

“I encourage mothers with my achievement to let them know that anything is possible and that it is never too late to work towards your dreams,” she said.

Meanwhile, proud husband Abbu Mani said he was very happy for his wife.

“We are very happy with my wife’s achievement and this has been a proud moment for my family.

“Joselyn has really worked hard to get to here and I for one would know that juggling motherhood and being a student is never and also being a wife,” he said.

Mr Mani said he did not regret allowing his wife to study and become a teacher.

“There is no limit to education and I hope that this will help those who wish to continue with their studies,” he said.

Mr Mani is a teacher at Karavi Public School in Ba.

Ms Roy, originally from Ba, graduated with High Diploma in Education (Primary) and wishes to continue with her Degree studies later in the year.
