The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), Brigadier-General Mosese Tikoitoga, yesterday described the late Manasa Vaniqi as a man of principle that was not easily swayed.

“For those who knew him, he was a man who was not easily swayed,” the Commander said while, delivering the RFMF’s eulogy.

“He stood by his ideals and stuck to his guns.”

The Commander said he was wise and experienced, morally strong and religious, kind and forthright.

“In him Fiji found a man whose character would bring calm and leadership in our most trying moments.”

He said he was well-liked by his military comrades and friends because of his jovial mood and when required in certain circumstance he could be a comedian.

Mr Vaniqi had joined the RFMF on January 19, 1974.

He served on active duty with the First Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the United Nations Transitional Assistance to East Timor. He was reported by his superiors to be a steadying influence on his fellow comrades and had a very high standard of discipline.

Mr Vaniqi served the RFMF regular force in and between his public service career. He served as the intelligence officer with the 4th Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment and later as the senior personnel staff officer (SPSO) to the Commander RFMF before he took up the appointment as miltary adviser to the Commander.

The Commander said Mr Vaniqi served the RFMF with total loyalty and dedicatiobn.
