A sea of black and white and military colours enveloped the FSC Compound in Waqadra, Nadi yesterday during the funeral of the late Manasa Vaniqi.

People from all walks of life came to pay their final respect to a decorated civil servant.

The President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, Cabinet Ministers, with a Government delegation were present.

Ratu Epeli also led his delegation to present their ireguregu for the former Permanent Secretary for Sugar.

He was accompanied by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, Attorney-General and Minister for Finance Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Minister for Lands Mereseini Vuniwaqa, Minister for Local Government Parveen Kumar, Minister for Agriculture, Inia Seruiratu, Minister for Defence Timoci Natuva, Minister for Employment Jioji Konrote, Minister for Health Jone Usamate and other Members of Parliament.

During the ireguregu the President said the State mourned the loss of a honest civil servant.

“He was a great man and dedicated his service to others in the country,” Ratu Epeli said.

There were RFMF pallbearers, a bugler, and a firing party as he was laid to rest at the Enamanu Cemetery in Nadi.

He died on New Year’s Day at the age of 62.

He is survived by wife Meiva, six children and seven grand children.
