The Minister for Fisheries and Forests, Osea Naiqamu paid a visit to the Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu during his tour to the North last week.

Ratu Naiqama said Mr Naiqamu was the first minister to be accepted to his home at Malua in Taveuni since 2006.

Ratu Naiqama reaffirmed to Minister Naiqamu that the people of Taveuni would work with Government.

He thanked the staff of the Ministry of Fisheries and Forests for helping the people of the island with their iqoliqoli projects last year.

Mr Naiqamu, during his visit, told landowners and pearl farmers that it was time to move forward.

During informal talks with some fishermen of Labasa, Mr Naiqamu heard the challenges faced by the fishermen and the different proposals they offered.

He informed them that Government would look into the challenges they had been facing.

He said Government recognised the contribution by the Northern Division in Fiji’s development.

“We have plans for the development for our forestry and fisheries sector for the benefit of our people. Let us work together and build our nation, a Vanua Levu for Fijians’ benefit,” he said.

Mr Naiqamu returned to Suva last Friday.
