The dedication and commitment shown by young athletes in the Fiji athletics squad has impressed former Pacific sprint queen Makelesi Bulikiobo-Batimala.

Batimala said she was expecting the female athletes to improve on their performances in the upcoming Pacific Games in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

“It is good to see the female athletes doing their off season training,” she said.

“There is good group of female athletes who I see training every day. So I’m looking forward to some good results come the Pacific Games.”

However, she pointed out that the young athletes still need to get a lot of exposure.

“They need the exposure and get the much-needed experience by competing on a higher level,” she added.

Bulikiobo said there’s no doubt the young athletes are a talented bunch and the reason for her comeback is to encourage them to run to their full potential.

“It is good to come back and give it a go again but I’m looking forward to a great performance. There is an opportunity for me to move up to the longer distances and yes I am happy to run in my own event again.

“I’ll see how my speed goes if I still have it and yes I will give it go,” she added
