More rain is expected in the next few days, says Fiji Meteorological Service acting director Aminiasi Tuidraki.

“At the moment we are monitoring a low pressure near the Solomon Islands,” Mr Tuidraki said.

He said there was a trough of low pressure from the Solomon Islands moving South-East towards Fiji.

“We are looking at associated cloud and rain bands to develop over the group.”

Mr Tuidraki said Australian meteorologists had been tracking the low pressure because there was a possibility that it could develop into a tropical cyclone.

“Once it comes across, we will take it over from Brisbane which is currently monitoring and tracking.”

He said their weather forecast had predicted that the low pressure would not develop into a cyclone or tropical cyclone because the conditions were not favourable.

“Our concern is the associated rain which can affect the country because there is a heavy rain alert for later in the week.”

Mr Tuidraki said the trough of low pressure was expected to continue until tomorrow (Thursday).
