A fisherman in Labasa has applauded the drop in fuel prices.

Norman Hewson of Vunirara Estate said the reduction had allowed parents like him to use more money on their back to school shopping before Term One starts next Tuesday.

“I thank Government for their help and effort in making life easier for people at the grassroots level,” Mr Hewson said.

“Now we can have some extra money to buy family necessities and putting more food in the cupboard.

“It is a tremendous help because the assistance will make it easier to send my four children to school,” he said.

Mr Hewson said further reductions in fuel costs would free most people, especially fishermen like him from most of their financial burdens.

“This would benefit all boat users especially us fishermen. Fisherman would travel for one to two hours over a long distance to catch fish.

“This requires a lot of fuel which is expensive thus we usually never make any profits,” he said.

Meanwhile, the cost of unleaded fuel fell by six cents to $2.31 a litre, while the price of diesel dropped by seven cents to $2.01 a litre.

The price of kerosene is now $1.58 a litre – a reduction of five cents while pre-mix cost $2.18 a litre.
