Shiv Prasad and Nilesni Lata were proud parents when their youngest daughter Sonika Prasad scored the highest 2014 Fiji School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) marks in the North.

Sonika of Labasa College scored 370 out 400 scooping the pride of the North for being a science topper.

The 44-year-old Mr Prasad with an attractive 25 years portfolio at the Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) said that her daughter’s struggles had finally paid off.

Daughter Sonika, 17, was all smiles beside her dad commending her parents for being the motivational force behind her success.

“I was so shocked about my marks but I knew I worked hard for it, I used to reach home at 5.30pm because I live at the outerskirt of Labasa Town in Raranibulubulu Settlement,” she said.

“Then I sleep only to wake again at 12am to study until I leave for school at 6am in the morning.”

Being an asthma patient, Sonika did not let her illness overtake her as she shared that even though she relaxed on the first and second terms, she studied hard during the last term.

She added that she had plans to become a heart surgeon in the future, and further thanking the Almighty, her parents, her teachers, colleagues and relatives for their support.
