The Tertiary Education Loan Scheme board has callled for early applications.

Hundreds of students lined up at the Fiji Nursing Association Hall in Suva yesterday to apply for the Tertiary Education Loan Scheme (TELS).

Cousins Losana Lagiloa, Rusiate Delai and Vasemaca Senilala travelled all the way from Silana Village in Dawasamu, Tailevu to take advantage of the opportunity.

Ms Lagiloa is a second-year Diploma in Accounting student at the Fiji National University (FNU).

This is the first time for her to apply for a scholarship.

“My mum and dad are not working and both live in the village,” she said.

“My dad is usually struggling and trying his best to meet our family’s daily expenses, so I thought of applying for this loan in order for me to get a secured employment,” she said.

Year 13 student Rusiate Delai shared similar sentiments.

“Seeing my parents struggle everyday to get me to school motivates me to work hard,” Ms Delai said.

“With the help offered by this Government, I believe many unfortunate children who want to achieve better things in life can finally do so.”

Government allocated $52.5million for TELS in its 2015 National Budget.
