Lamini Village elder Vueti Logayau of Taveuni, says the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, was a leader for the people.

Mr Logayau, one of the major landowners of the site of the Somosomo Mini Hydro, had followed the Prime Minister during his tour of Taveuni to show his support for his leadership.

He admitted that Taveuni was a stronghold for the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA), but the Prime Minister’s visit had united the people.

Most of the people in Taveuni for the first time shook hands with the Prime Minister and they were happy that he cared for them.

“He even shook hands with children and waved to the people while travelling on the road,” Mr Loganiyau said.

He said this was a great gesture to the people of Taveuni.

Mr Logayau said many of the SODELPA supporters were changing their minds on their support for their party.

Commenting on the Government developments in Taveuni, Mr Loganiyau said Lamini Village was part of Somosomo Village and they had been getting electricity from generators and soon this would be a thing of the past for villagers in Somosomo.

The Government fully funded Hydro project would produce 700KW of power, which would generate electricity through two 350KW generators.

Mr Loganiyau said the island had also received help from other government ministries and these had helped them change their lifestyles.

He said he fully supported the Prime Minister’s visit and hoped he would make another one before his term ended.
