The Minister for Education, Mahendra Reddy has confirmed that any student who passed Year 12 is eligible for a place in Year 13.

This was brought to the ministry’s attention after some principals had set their own entry marks into Year 13.

“The Government is investing into the lives of these children and we want to see that all of them progress to the highest level of education possible,” Mr Reddy said.

He said they had removed the financial burden off the parents to allow the students of this nation to progress and pursue their dreams in life.

“We had made it very clear when the results were released that all those who have passed be given a place in Year 13.”

Mr Reddy said students who passed Year 12, but were refused entry into Year 13 should contact the nearest education office.

“Schools should give preference to those students living within the zone as the zoning policy applies to all schools nationwide.”

He said the transport assistance that they were providing was only for stage one and if parents wished to send their children further then they should bear the extra cost of transportation.

“This should be clear to all parents so they can be wise in choosing the schools that their children attend.”

Mr Reddy wished all students, teachers, parents and school managements the very best as they prepare for the start of Term One on January 19.
