Residents of Nasinu will now experience a faster processing time for building permit applications following the approval of the Town Planning Scheme.

The town council members were proud to witness the handing over of the approved scheme to Nasinu special administrator Mosese Kama.

Mr Kama said the approval of the planning scheme was a milestone achievement for the council.

The quick processing time is in line with the Minister for Local Government’s recent ruling on streamlining building applications for all councils.

Council manager engineering and planning Mosese Yavalanavanua applauded the event and thanked all those who supported the planning scheme throughout the years.

This Town Planning Scheme is a document which guides the way a town or city develops and assists the council in its day to day decision about applications.

Mr Kama said the approved scheme would now enable the council’s town planning officers to approve building permit applications and other development projects.

“Prior to the approved scheme, all building applications were received and vetted by the council and submitted to the Department of Town and Country Planning for approval,” he said.

The scheme was first formulated in 2009 and after several public consultations and stakeholder meetings it was provisionally approved in 2013.

The council is requesting all relevant stakeholders and prospective developers to comply with all requirements to ensure a faster processing time.
