Family Holds Memorial Service Of Missing Lau Men

The family of one of the two men who went missing in Lau waters on Christmas Day conducted a memorial service in Kinoya, Suva yesterday.

Maika Rasoqosoqo of Nayau in Lau left Cicia Island on Christmas morning, however he did not reach his destination along with his wife’s uncle.

Mr Rasoqosoqo’s cousin Sekonaia Ledua said the service brought the family together.

“We are commemorating their lives because it has been almost a month and they are still not found,” Mr Ledua said.

“We gathered here to express our sadness for the loss of our brother, uncle, grandson in a memorial service and a family lunch.”

More than 30 family members attended the service.

Mr Ledua and his cousin Inia Rasoqosoqo are teachers in Naitasiri and Waininbuka.

He said they wanted to hold the memorial service first before they leave for the new school term.

“Maika was a humble, friendly and skillful mechanic. We will miss him. Most people in Lau and Kadavu will miss him because he usually repairs outboard engines in the islands,” Mr Ledua said.

Mr Rasoqosoqo is survived by his two children and wife who is pregnant.
