Chairman of the FNPF Board – Mr. Ajith Kodagoda

Managing Director of Tour Managers – Mr. Damend Gounder, Stakeholders of the Tourism Industry, Invited Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen:

Bula vinaka and good evening to you all!

I am honoured to be here today on behalf of the FNPF Board, to officially mark the opening of the newly renovated and the rebranded Yatule Resort and Spa here at Natadola.

This milestone achievement we are witnessing today, is another outcome of the FNPF investment rehabilitation programme, which is part and parcel of the FNPF holistic reforms which commenced in 2010.

Reform objectives

The key objectives of these reforms were to ensure that the FNPF is sustainable and improve the services to our stakeholders.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the FNPF is all about its members. Whatever we do, including this project, must be for their benefit.

The investment rehabilitation programmes aims to ensure that non-performing assets are actively managed to yield better returns for members of the Fund.

The investment rehabilitation programmes has seen the reconstruction of the Grand Pacific Hotel, commencement of the Natadola residential development project and most recently the re-launch of the Momi Redevelopment Project.

The Yatule Beach Resort, what it was known before, was constructed in 2005 to serve initially as accomodation facility for consultants and contractors involved in the construction of the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa.

Upon completion of the InterContinental Resort, it was then converted to a bungalow-type accommodation, comprising of 11 rentable bures, restaurant and a bar.

With a small inventory of rooms, the deteriorating condition of the Resort over the years, marketing the Resort to attract a feasible number of guests despite its pristine location; facing the beautiful Natadola Beach, remained an issue.

Hence, the Resort has not been able to derive the guest numbers to achieve profitability.

As you know, the Resort sits in one of the prime location alongside the world-renowned Natadola beach.

Given its potential, the Board made a decision to re-invest into the upgrade of the Resort with an outsourced management.

Investment

The Fund has invested just over $2M in the Resort upgrade with a significant improvement in the expected income to the property.

As for the management of the Resort, a public EOI process was undertaken to select a suitable operator to manage the Resort.

Tour Managers was then nominated as the successful candidate with the commercial terms set out to ensure that the investment provides a good return to the Fund and ultimately to its members.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Tour Managers (Fiji) Ltd’s engagement with FNPF is an ambitious move for the company.

It is however a reflection of Tour Managers intention to contribute to Fiji’s economy.

Tour Managers offers a wide range of exclusive transport services, facilities, and value adding products to Free Independent Travelers (FIT’s), Conferences, and Groups and Incentive Markets.

The company also owns and operates a fleet of deluxe transport including mini-coaches and VIP transfer vehicles and limousines.

This will add value to the experience of guests here at the Yatule Beach Resort and Spa.

The Fund is confident that this partnership is going to proactively meet international traveler’s needs and boost employment for our local Fijian nationals and economic activities that will be generated into the economy and brings to the tourism industry a totally new experience.

And so ladies and gentlemen, The Resort now reopens its doors for business with a much better offering to the market.

Resort Features

The resort now features modern guest rooms, restaurant and bar. It also features a new spa facility and a new swimming pool.

It can now cater for conference, meeting, wedding and event programmes and provides a range of sea and land-based non-motorised activities.

The property has 36 rooms with either pool or ocean views and each room is merely footsteps away from the gorgeous white sandy beach of Natadola Beach.

The opportunities a project like this creates, is considerable; from employment, supplier relationship to tourist attraction.

The benefits will speak for themselves – happy guests not only contribute to the growth of our tourism sector as a whole, they in turn increase the profitability of individual businesses.

Invited Guests, I also hope that you will support this venture and new journey for the resort, as it will not only give back to members of the Fund, but to the economy as a whole.

Ladies, Gentlemen and Distinguished Guests, we wish the resort well and it now gives me great pleasure to declare the Yatule Resort and Spa @ Natadola, OPEN!
