Famous Pacific (New Zealand) Limited says Singapore’s SingPost deal to acquire 90 per cent of parent company, Famous Pacific Shipping Group, would enable further opportunities for growth.

Famous Pacific Shipping (Fiji) Limited is a branch of Famous Pacific NZ, the New Zealand partner for Famous Pacific Shipping Group based in Asia.

It has offices in Suva and Lautoka and began operations here in 1996.

Famous Pacific NZ managing director, Marcus Goldsworthy confirmed there would be no change to structure and business will operate under the same management as before.

Pravin Dutt and Shelene Dutt will continue running operations in Fiji.

There will be no changes to structure or staff.

Mr Goldsworthy said: “The deal will increase our capability as we develop our business into e-commerce, a sector we believe will grow our logistics business,”

SingPost (officially known as Singapore Post) is a leading mail, logistics and retail solutions in Singapore and Asia Pacific.

In 2014, it sold 11 per cent (US312bn) of its shares to China’s Alibaba, the powerhouse for Chinese e-commerce company, which provides consumer-to-consumer via web portals.

SingPost was established in 1853, is a reputable company and has a value of US$4.3 billion.

In Fiji, Mr Goldsworthy confirmed that it was ‘trading extremely well and business continued to be strong’.

Famous Pacific has operations all over the world including Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, Japan and USA.

“We have full confidence in the Fijian economy. This deal basically enables us to grow further.”
