The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has identified areas where more nurses and doctors are needed.

Assistant Minister for Health Veena Bhatnagar revealed this after her tour of the Ba Hospital on Thursday where she saw a need for nurses and doctors.

“After a conversation with the only doctor in Ba Hospital, I strongly feel that there was a serious need for doctors here. The doctor here serves 100 to 140 patients in a day and this is not good, so we are trying to encourage trained nurses to assist for now while we sort out the new postings,” Ms Bhatnagar said.

She said despite the shortage, she was impressed with the way they carried out their duties.

“I applaud the sub-divisional medical officers around the hospital for doing a good job by making sure that everyone is being served despite the shortage of staff.

“With the new posting that is to happen by the end of this month, we will make sure that Ba Hospital receives a good number of nurses and doctors,” she said.

In an earlier interview, Ms Bhatnagar said 150 new doctors, 200 nurses and 91 elite staff will be posted to medical centres by the end of the month.

Ms Bhatnagar also commended the services offered by the staff of Nailaga Health Centre.

“Nailaga Health Centre receives an average of 70 patients daily. The services that they provide really impressed me.

“There may be some places where there is a need for improvement and our ministry will look into this,” she said
