Four More In Custody

Four people are in Police custody following Phase Four of ‘Operation Sasamaki’ in the province of Bua.

Police chief operations officer Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rusiate Tudravu said: “Two are suspected to be involved in the cultivation of marijuana while another two were found with dried leaves and seeds believed to be marijuana.”

The raids were conducted yesterday morning at Vuniyasa and Raviravi Settlement in Bua where two farmers, one aged 25 and the other 39, were found in possession of parcels of dried leaves and seeds believed to be marijuana.

“Another team conducted a raid in the Wainunu District where a 30-year-old farmer was arrested after 37 plants believed to be marijuana and standing at least two metres high were uprooted from his farm,” he said.

“The fourth suspect a 39-year-old also of Wainunu District was arrested following a raid on his farm.

“Twenty-four plants were uprooted and containers of seeds believed to be marijuana were found in his possession.”
