The Reddy family has accepted the death of their son – Vodafone Fiji Under-17 representative Muni Shalit Reddy in Samoa. The Nadi Muslim College student was among the team that featured in the 2015 OFC Under-17 World Cup qualifying tournament.

The late Reddy, who would have celebrated his 16th birthday on March 26, drowned while having a swim with his teammates in Apia yesterday afternoon.

His father Mahendra Reddy said that they were still in shock but have accepted the death of his eldest son.

“He was great soccer player as none of us in the family had reached that far. He would give up food to eat and even play soccer the whole day,” Mr Reddy said. “The whole family was very supportive towards his soccer. He was turning that dream into reality so far until he is no longer with us.”

Fiji FA chief executive officer Bob Kumar said it was a sad day for the sport and has given their full support for the family.

The late Muni Shalit’s body is expected to arrive with the national side in the next flight which arrives on Friday. He is survived by his father, mother and two siblings.
