High Tech Learning For Young

The breakthrough in using advanced technology for youths in Lami and Fiji will soon turn to reality.

Today, the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, will open the Lami Tech Studio at 10am.

This project was made possible through an agreement signed last year between the Lami Town Council, the Foundation for the Peoples of the South Pacific International, and the New Zealand and United States-based High Tech Youth Network.

The project will see youths around Lami access advanced technology and a Pacific wide virtual mentoring network that will connect them to inspirational adults involved in the Information Communications and Technology (ICT) industry, including over 3000 other young people.

The agreement is intended to be rolled out over four years and will see the three organisations working together to build a high tech youth studio that will help youths create digital projects ranging from 3D engineering, animation, movie and sound production, robotics to coding and video game development.

High Tech Youth Network chief executive officer Mike Usmar said: “One of the big achievements we see with young people at a High Tech Youth Studio is that they engage early in technology, which sets them up to do really well at school and then onto higher learning opportunities and career possibilities in the globally emergent high tech sector.”

Working with Telecom Fiji the new High Tech Youth Studio will be connected into the TFL fibre network. It will allow young people to access video conference with other young people and industry mentors from the UK, New Zealand, Australia and United States.

Yesterday Council workers were cleaning up the site for the big event.

The studio is located at Johnny Singh Park, Nasevou Street, Lami.
