USP Labasa Programme Targets School Leavers

In line with trying to bring in more students into the education system, University of the South Pacific Labasa Campus has been visiting rural and remote areas the North.

USP Labasa Campus have visited places like Taveuni in Cakaudrove and have offered school leavers some suitable alternative available at the university.

Labasa campus assistant lecturer education Rosiana Lagi said on Monday the outreach programme would benefit most school leavers who now live in their villages.

“There are students who had passed Year 12 and 13 and are hanging around in the villages; they are not aware of the programmes offered at the Labasa Campus,” Ms Lagi said.

“When we show them the programmes offered then we try and align it with the work they want to do or the career they want,” she said.

During the outreach they also counselled students on what programmes of study to take up and the work they could do when they graduated.

USP Labasa Campus will also visit remote areas in Bua and Macuata province.
