The newly elected board of the Fiji Cancer Society is expected to meet with the Trustees next week.

Newly elected president Cecilia Frost confirmed that the two parties would meet and simultenously move the body ahead.

“We need to do it to make a difference and most importantly to come up with ways and initiatives to make the public have confidence in supporting our society for the betterment of the people.”

“We will look at what our predecessors did and then come up with ways to ensure that these steps are not taken again,” she said.

“The past is under the bridge. We will not dwell on it, but our team will work on ensuring that the negative issues of the past will not get in the way of us moving forward.

“We will do all in our power to assist where possible in ensuring that more educational programmes, awareness drives, fundraising and research are done diligently and with honesty.”

The Society was founded in 1993.

It established three main committees depicting different activities they supported – Cancer education and health promotion, patient support services and finance and development.

Their prime role is on advocacy awareness and patient support. A Cervical Cancer Task Force was established by the Cancer Education Committee to address cancer of the cervix, the most common form of cancer in Fiji, followed by breast cancer.
