McKee Welcomes Challenge

The 2015 Pacific Challenge will provide the perfect opportunity for the development of the Vodafone Flying Fijians squad to the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

This was the view of Flying Fijians head coach John McKee.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, McKee said looking at the format of this year’s tournament he was pleased with the opportunities presented to the players.

“The Pacific Rugby Cup (now known as Pacific Challenge) with all A teams make this a very good tournament to test our players against oppositions not only in the Pacific, but from Argentina and Canada as well,” he said.

“This is very important in developing our players and having a good look at those who can perhaps step up to Flying Fijian levels either later this year or in the future.”

McKee was pleased that with the Fiji A hosting, the stresses of travelling would now no longer be an issue.

“With all the matches in Fiji this year, cuts out the travel between matches, which was a problem in the previous format, and will help us better prepare the team for the challenging matches in the tournament.”

The tournament is set to kick-off on March 10 at the ANZ Stadium with Junior Japan taking on Canada A in the opener at 1pm, Samoa A playing Tonga at 3pm and then Argentina Pampas XV playing Fiji Warriors at 5pm. Pampas XV are the defending champions.
