Three Fiji Secondary Schools Under-19 rugby league players are looking forward to play in this year’ s NRL Holden Cup Under-20 competition in Australia.

The players are 19-year-old Jone Waqaliva from Navosa who has signed up with Sydney Roosters, centre Eroni Tuwai who will join Canterbury Bulldogs while Kaminieli Raivono is recruited by Penrith Panthers

Fiji National Rugby League development officer Nadroga/Navosa Suli Cakautabu said the players were waiting for the outcome of their visa application and were ready to take on the challenge.

“This is a big boost for the Nadroga/Navosa Zone as we know that for the first time last year Navosa has joined secondary school competitions,” said Cakautabu.

“In their first year these three boys will be part of the NRL. The boys have got potential because they were scouted by rugby league legends Brad Fittler and Andrew Johns.

Cakautabu said this would be a motivating factor for other players in the province who wanted to make a name in the sport.

The players are camping at Cakautabu’s home.

“The boys are staying with me and I have given them their training programmes to follow,” he said.
