Their search for a better job was what made them travel from the West to Suva yesterday.

Pritika Sen, 31, of Vatukoula and Archana Goundar, 29 of Namou Ba travelled to Suva yesterday to attend the Recognised Seasonal Employers (RSE) Workers Scheme medical test in Suva.

They were among the hundreds who turned up for the test.

“I stay home and my husband is a casual labourer. We are looking after his mother. We have been facing a lot of financial problems which is why I had applied,” Mrs Sen said.

Ms Goundar, on the other hand, said she applied after hearing about the employment scheme.

“I stay home and help my mother so I have applied because I want to work and save some money,” she said.

“We live in a rural community and do not earn much money, so this is one easy way where we can earn good money,” she said.

The applicants yesterday underwent medical tests with the assistance of the Ministry of Health and would be undergoing their fitness tests tomorrow.
