The people of Lautoka will be expecting a colourful approach on the weekend to raise awareness on non-communicable diseases (NCD).

Colour Explosion, a group formed by community workers, will conduct their first 5.7 kilometre fun walk tomorrow in the Sugar City displaying colours signifying the different NCDs in Fiji.

Colour Explosion president Paula Rafiq said they had been getting a lot of support towards the initiative.

“I thank the Ministry of Health for stepping in and assisting to raise more awareness on NCD,” she said.

“The Colour Explosion fun walk will be its first in Fiji. It is a global celebration, but we have decided to host it in January since everybody would not be busy.

“Why we call it Colour Explosion is because different colours will represent different NCD. For example, we have red for malnutrition and yellow for sexual reproduction.”

The group is targeting at least 500 people to participate.

“The ministry will also be conducting health checks, free Pap smear for women and free dental checks,” Ms Rafiq said.

The fun walk will start at Shirley Park at 7am.
