A single mother of Vuisiga in Naitasiri is among hopefuls for a place in the Recognised Seasonal Employers (RSE) Workers Scheme.

Fipe Lutu, 33, stays home and looks after her two children. She was among the hundreds that turned up at the Civic Centre in Suva yesterday to attend a medical test for the workers scheme.

Ms Lutu hopes to secure employment to provide a better for her two children.

“I just live in the village and my brothers have been supporting my eldest son’s education. There have been times that they come to me and ask me to get things that I cannot afford and it hurts because I cannot provide for them,” Ms Lutu said.

“I have always asked them to at least appreciate and accept whatever I am able to give them.

“I was on my way back home sometime last November when I met this woman in a bus and she told me all the details. I took all the required documents and applied at the National Employment Centre.

“I had forgotten about my application until I received a call from the centre for an interview last Monday. I just could not describe my emotions because I am worried about my children’s future, especially because I am not working. If I get through, I plan to come back and build a house for us and invest in my children for their future,” she said.
