The people of Savusavu in Vanua Levu  will soon benefit from a new fire station.

The Minister for Local Government, Parveen Kumar, yesterday officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Savusavu Fire Station that would be built this year.

Mr Kumar said with its new strategic direction, the National Fire Authority (NFA) was undergoing major reforms and introducing new objectives.

“This is to meet the expectations of Government and the members of the community in providing an all-encompassing emergency management service,” he said.

He said NFA had grown its capabilities to support Government’s development and investment plans for our nation.

“And the new fire station that will be constructed at this site will be testament of the growth and progress of the fire services to meet the challenges and complexities of the changing domestic and economic environment,” Mr Kumar said.

He said NFA was challenged to take its services closer to the communities to ensure the quick and effective delivery of its services.

“This new project is the beginning of many important capital developments taking shape at the National Fire Authority,” Mr Bala said.

He said along with this new station, more fire stations would be constructed in Seaqaqa, Korovou, Korolevu, Navua and Nakasi.
