Jazz Revival Hits West

Jazz revival in the West! Yes, the Western Musicians and Entertainment Association, is putting together a weekly jazz session Nadi’s Farmers Club .
“The plan is to revive jazz music,” said WMEA treasurer Rusiate Ralulu.
“At one time nearly every local musician was well- versed with jazz as it was the in thing during that era. But as time moved on it seemed to die away and that’s what we are trying to bring back.”
Ralulu said jazz music saw the emergence of music greats like the late Waisea Vatuwaqa, Paul Stevens, Vili Tuilaucala, Tui Ravai, Rabaka brothers, Robert Verma, Eni Kumar, Michelle Rounds and the list goes on and on.
“Now from that era we’ve got world renowned jazz guitarist Tom Mawi around with us. We’ve great respect for Mr Mawi and he is still playing jazz today and that has challenged us to revive jazz music in the West.”
He indicated that they are grateful the to support by the owner and management of
Nadi’s Farmers Club agreeing to the weekly session, which to start soon.
“We also invite our brothers and sisters in Suva if they are in the West to join us on our jazz nights and be part of its revival,” he added.
