Minister for Health Jone Usamate applauds the great success of a colourful NCD awareness in Lautoka, yesterday.

The Range De Viti also known as the Colour Explosion Walk was conducted with around 400 colorful participants at Shirley Park in Lautoka

“The colour explosion has been a great success and has also raised much awareness as we see the number of people that have turned out for this event,” Mr Usamate said.

“Having the theme of being colourful keeping in mind that the colour represents the different NCDs we face in Fiji; the idea was very unique and has had a massive impact to the people of Lautoka.

Mr Usamate said the ministry alone should not be responsible for decreasing NCDs.

“People are facing this health issues because of what they decide to do with themselves; the Ministry cannot be responsible for looking after this.

“We can only fight and decrease these issues if we all work together and say no to NCDs,” he said.

According to statistics, currently 80 per cent of people in Fiji die from NCDs; 31 per cent aged 25-64 years have high blood pressure.

The Minister urged the public to take action and stay healthy.

“There is a need for more advocacies about NCD’s at home and school; parents please teach your children on the importance of staying healthy and active,” Mr Usamate said.

He welcomed Colour Explosion and thanked other corporate businesshouses in assisting the Ministry through their awareness programme.

Meanwhile group president Paula Rafiq thanked all the participants for turning up.
