Iliesa Tanivula admitted it was tough selecting the Telecom Fijiana side for 2015 Brazil 7s scheduled for this weekend.

The 12 players were named at the Tanoa Plaza Hotel in Suva yesterday.

“It was really hard to select the final 12,”he said.

“I had to drop some of the experienced players due to injuries and few minor issues but we had to look around on and off the field. But most important was our discipline.

“We had to work much harder. It’s an opportunity for the girls that have come into the team representing the country and enjoy Brazil.”

Tanivula hoped the girls could maintain consistency as the tournament progressed.

“If we can be consistent, that’d be great. We came sixth on the first leg in Dubai so if we can be consistent and if we can make the top four, well and good. But overall, if we can be consistent and get better at the same time that’s all I can ask for.

“The last four weeks have been real intense so this week we just tried to get them rounding up everything.”

Regarding playmaker Brittany Coates, Tanivula was confident in the 21 year-old’s contribution to the team.

“She brings to the squad core skills that are top level and as a coach, that’s a very big advantage to us. She’s been one the more consistent players and brings experience from New Zealand and it’s good to see how she shares that with her teammates.”

Tanivula also commended captain Priscilla Siata for her talent and leadership.

“She’s been really consistent and is one of our top four players. She’s really shown experience and leadership skills on and off the field.”

Fiji opens the tournament playing their first match against China at 1am local time before taking on Brazil at 4.06am then playing their final pool match against Australia at 6.28am.

The squad is expected to depart for Sao Paulo, Brazil tomorrow.

Telecom Fijiana: Elina Ratauluva (vice captain), Timaima Tamoi, Talica Vodo, Josivini Gusuivalu, Lavenia Tinai, Rusila Tamoi, Ana Maria Roqica, Reijieli Uluinayau, Brittany Coates, Priscilla Siata (Captain), Roela Radiniyavuni, Ella Mara. Non travelling reserves: Asinate Savu, Tavaita Ravouvou, Akosita Ravato.
