Crackdown On bus Checkers Today

Bus checkers will be removed from all buses today.

The Land Transport Authority and the Fiji Police Force have embarked on a new operation today to track down all illegal bus checkers accompanying bus drivers around the country.

LTA spokesperson Iliesa Sokia said the issue of bus checkers was still a concern for the authority.

“This is an illegal activity to allow people to sit on a position which is not approved or authorised by LTA,” Mr Sokia said.

“This has been a concern to us from the public and we have raised it with the bus operators during our meeting two weeks ago.”

He claims these bus checkers were usually creating problems inside the buses.

“They are always playing around and dictating the volume of music inside the buses and this has been a nuisance,” he said.

“Bus drivers and checkers refusing to abide by this directive will be arrested because this is a breach to the conditions of the Public Service Vehicle code of conduct.”

The operation will continue until all the illegal bus checkers are removed.

“If we do not see any changes from the bus operators then they will find difficulties in securing their Road Route License (RRL),” he said.
