Fiji Television has hardly lost anything as a result of the sub-licensing agreement between Fiji Television and FBC TV for World Rugby 7s coverage.

FHL Group CEO and Fiji TV director, Nouzab Fareed, confirmed this.

Mr Fareed said they made more money out of airing George 7s through the sub license agreement with FBC TV as opposed to Gold Coast 7s when it was aired alone by Fiji TV.

“We are a commercial organisation and I am running a large company. So we have to make commercial decisions,” he said.

“This is not social service – whatever we do – we invoice and they pay. The technicality is we wont get the total cost of the event until the event is over.

“As such, George 7s is over and within a few days, we got all the invoices and we had to pay those invoices and so once we pay everything, we take the total, then we invoice FBC. I am happy to say, FBC has paid that amount due.

“And we are very happy we will continue to make money in the coming months.

“The CFO of Fiji TV confirmed we made more money in George 7s compared to Gold Coast 7s.”

7s coverage

Mr Fareed said Rugby 7s is no more a question as the agreement signed allows Fiji TV to get the feed from World Rugby because World Rugby has agreed to give that feed subject to we are sharing with FBC.

“This is also subject to the Government removing that from the designated events,” he said.

“So three parties have to do three things which we have done and means we are well-settled for all the events – starting from Wellington until the end.”

Mr Fareed said would only be up till October this year.

“Our agreement was only up till that date because our rights was only up to that day and so we will continue up till that day,” he said.
