Rishikul Primary School headboy, Nikhil Kumar, 13, only wishes his father was around to see him receive his badge yesterday.

Nikhil was among more than 30 school and class prefects who were inducted during the school’s prefect induction.

Only Nikhil’s mother, Angani Kumar, was present to see him receive his badge. He said the father’s presence, Sanjay Kumar, would have been a bonus since he had always been supporting him in his primary school years.

“My dad works for World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and is currently attending to some work commitments in Papua New Guinea and will be back by this afternoon (yesterday),” Nikhil said.

“He was always encouraging me to work hard in school and always motivating me to reach for greater things and today I just wish he was able to witness this event.”

Mrs Kumar said she was proud of her son saying Nikhil deserved the role because he was always disciplined with everything he did.

Meanwhile, headgirl Manisha Mani, 13, said her new role would enable her to gain leadership skills that would help her take up bigger leadership roles in the future.

Headgirl: Manisha Mani
