Seeto Murder Suspect Released

A suspect in the alleged murder of Holland Seeto was released from police custody yesterday.

This was confirmed yesterday by Police Chief of Investigation, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Henry Brown.

The Police had been working on options to deal with the suspect before their four-day extension expired yesterday. If Police investigations were completed yesterday the suspect would have been charged and presented at the Nasinu Magistrates Court. If the suspect was not charged he was entitled to be released from custody.

Police was also eligible to seek the Court’s permission for another extension to hold the suspect in custody.

It is also understood that the insufficient evidence gathered by Police at this stage also led to the suspect’s release.

The Police was granted permission earlier by the Court for an extension to keep the suspect in custody for four more days.

This was per the Rights of an Arrested Person in the 2013 Constitution that a person should be produced in Court 48 hours after taken into custody.

The late Mr Seeto was allegedly stabbed to death at the Lee’s Trading Company in Laucala Beach last week. He was laid to rest on Sunday.
