Canadian Ventriloquist Here To Teach

The Globetrotting ventriloquist Val Hilliker is in the country to share her skills.

For the next three months Ms Hilliker intends to share her message on how to be a ventriloquist and to use puppets to convey tactful message to younger audiences.

“I have been to Koroipita, and we have built more than 100 puppets with the children there and will go back and they love it,” Ms Hilliker said.

“I am also the guest in the Mix FM morning show. I am teaching locals to be a ventriloquist and there are not many in worldwide which live their life on being a ventriloquist.”

Wikipedia encyclopedia defines Ventriloquism, or ventriloquy, as an act of stagecraft in which a person (a ventriloquist) changes his or her voice so that it appears that the voice is coming from elsewhere, usually a puppeteered “dummy”.

This has been her profession for the past 36 years after she read a book on how to become a ventriloquist at the age of 18.

“I have been part of the Canada got talent, TV commercial; schools rescue wild life and programmes.

Ms Hilliker has been to Honduras, Japan, US, and New Zealand also promoting the concepts of the Virtues Project, a mission teaching schoolchildren and community’s ways to build high self esteem and not to be swayed from getting into trouble and being abused.

“I brought about sevens puppet with me and will leave behind four which I have made in the last two weeks. Seven locals will also be trained from next week,” she said.

Ms Hilliker arrived on January 16 and is supported by Fiji Airways, Airport Fiji Limited, Virtues Project (Fiji), Mix FM, and Fiji One.
