Big Boost For Birthing Units

The Ministry of Health has vowed to use the medical equipments donated by the United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA) to provide quality health care to the people.
The Ministry last Friday received a timely donation of F$106,884 worth of medical equipments to be used at the soon to be constructed Makoi Birthing Unit and also distributed to Lautoka, Labasa and Suva.
Ministry of Health’s Permanent Secretary Dr Metuisela Tuicakau said the unit would be completed by early next year.
“The equipments will be used to the best for its intended purpose and will help us to meet our mandate of providing quality health care for the people of Fiji,” Dr Tuicakau said.
The unit will cater for populations within the Suva-Nausori corridor.
Dr Tuicakau said the construction of the unit would ease the workload at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.
Meanwhile, UNFPA Pacific director Dr Laurent Zessler said the donation was in line with the vision of UNFPA in delivering a world where every birth was safe.
