Carpenters Fiji Group has added a new subsidiary to its already extensive market portfolio.

Carpenters Waters Fiji Limited becomes the 10th company of the conglomerate which focuses in areas of supermarkets and retail, shipping, financing, automotive and technology.

Carpenters Waters was established following the sale and purchase completion of Dayal Group of Companies’ Island Chill Natural Artesian Water subsidiary the past year.

This was confirmed by Carpenters Fiji Limited retail and marketing director Kunaseelan Sabaratnam.

Mr Sabaratnam said while he was unable to confirm the exact value of the sale it was in ‘millions’.

The discussion on buying out Dayal Group’s water bottling arm had been going on for the past three years, he added.

Marketing

In light of this, Mr Sabaratnam said they were already aggressively marketing Island Chill to new international markets with container-loads sent to the United States, parts of Asia and neigbouring countries.

“We have started on a very positive note,” Mr Sabaratnam said.

“We have got 15-20 containers going to Papua New Guinea, five going to Japan, two to three containers going to Australia.”

As far as the local market is concerned, it has contracted a local dealer to distribute the product to all supermarkets.

Island Chill is readily available at all MH supermarkets outlets in the country.

Carpenters Waters also has strong support from RB Patel Group which has become one of its main sellers.

“For this, we would like to thank Surendra Patel (Executive director for the RB Patel).”

Last year Carpenters Waters marketed its Island Chill products during the Americas Food & Beverage Show held in Miami.

It was there that it managed to secure 15 American company interests.

The companies are involved in supermarket operations and independent grocers, he said.

“They were looking not only in distributing in America but also in the Caribbean and one or two were also looking at Asia.”
