he trial of six men charged in relation to the Bank South Pacific (BSP) Samabula robbery resumes today.

The trial was not heard yesterday because High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo’s prior commitment in the Appeals Court.

Tevita Sugu, Solomoni Qurai, Josaia Usumaki, Epeli Qaraniqio, Deshwar Kishore Dutt and Kunal Edwin Prasad are charged in relation to the alleged BSP Samabula branch robbery in September 19, 2012.

Sugu and Prasad are charged with aggravated robbery of $70,000 Fijian dollars, and other foreign currencies while other four are charged with dishonestly receiving stolen property.

It is alleged that Qurai dishonestly received stolen property namely cash worth over F$3000, US$100 and A$100 knowing that the cash is stolen property.

Usumaki is alleged to have dishonestly received stolen property namely F$709 cash knowing it was stolen.

All six accused have denied their charges.

A turn of events took place last week before Justice Salesi Temo when one of the witnesses confused the courtroom with a suspect’s name and face.

State lawyer Lisiate Fotofili during the opening of his case identified Sugu as the unmasked man armed with cane knife.

However one of the state witnesses Alim Khan pointed Usumaki out in court last week Friday as the unmasked man.

He however recalled giving Sugu’s name in his Police statement as well as the name in court.
