Friday Sentence For Car Thief  Accused

A 38-year-old casual labourer of Vuniyasi in Nadi appeared at the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday on charges of car thefts.

The suspect, Krishneel Deepak Kumar, who is charged with 11 counts of motor vehicle theft, appeared before Resident Magistrate Siromi Turaga.

The court heard that he committed the offences between November last year and this month.

He pleaded guilty to the 11 charges after it was read to him in court.

Representing himself he said in mitigation that he had an unemployed wife, a young child and he was the sole breadwinner.

Police prosecutor Inspector Sunil Gosai made an application for the accused to be remanded in custody.

The court has remanded him in custody at the Lautoka Police Station and noted that he also had pending cases.

He has had 24 previous convictions, 23 of which are relevant.

He will re-appear at the Nadi Magistrates Court for sentencing this Friday.
