NZ Companies To Visit Fiji For Interviews

Two New Zealand companies have been identified as first recruiters of Fijians under the seasonal workers scheme.

A fruit picking company called Pick Hawkes Bay Incorporated and East Pack Company of Bay of Plenty – a fruit processing factory for export – will be hiring Fijians to take part in the pilot scheme.

This was revealed in Parliament yesterday by the Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jioji Konrote.

Mr Konrote also told Parliament that members of these two companies would be in the country for interviews.

“The New Zealand employers will be arriving this week to interview and select those candidates who will be the 30 pioneers of the NZRSE work scheme. These personnel are expected to leave for New Zealand on Saturday, February 21, and Monday, March 16 respectively.”

Mr Konrote said the ministry would be keeping a close watch on these pilot workers to ensure that future participation in the scheme was not jeopardised in any way.

He also told Parliament that these workers will be undergoing post-development training.

“The performance and progress of our workers will be monitored to ensure that their service delivery is satisfactory because of the need for Fiji to fully utilise the opportunity of sending more of our unemployed personnel in future.

“It is equally important that our workers are properly administered on their return to Fiji. This important phase of their development as experienced seasonal workers should heighten their prospects of return employment in New Zealand.”
