Police Investigate Car Parts Theft

LATEST UPDATE: Police in the Western Division have been directed to investigate those who may be involved in the purchase of stolen car parts and accessories.

This follows an extensive operation where a man in his late 30s was produced at the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday after he was charged with 11 counts of motor vehicle theft.

The accused is alleged to have been involved in a series of motor vehicle thefts in the Nadi-Namaka corridor since November last year.

The accused who has been remanded in custody will also be questioned for other similar cases reported in Lautoka.

What is of concern to Police is that thefts of this nature are occurring because there is a market where the stolen items are being re-sold, which is why we have directed investigators to look at those who could be purchasing the stolen items.

Over the past two months there has been an increase in the number of motor vehicle thefts in the Nadi-Lautoka corridor with the vehicles found stripped of accessories and some parts.

As such members of the public are being warned that receiving or purchasing stolen items is illegal and those found doing so could face charges also.

We are requesting you to be cautious and aware of items and accessories that are being sold in a suspicious manner as we have information of the illegal trade of such items that have been brought to our attention following the recent arrest.
