Rewa Rice To Introduce New Products

Product diversification has become a major priority for Rewa Rice Limited.

The Government commercial company will be introducing two new products, rice flour and unpolished rice into the Fijian market in a month’s time.

Company mill manager Ashrit Pratap said they are currently selling only one product.

“At the moment we only selling brown rice and we are operating under a low margin because of the competition from outside,” Mr Pratap said.

“But we are planning to introduce a new variety into the market like the unpolished brown rice because our current product is semi-polished.”

He said this product would be targeting the older generation through the supermarkets and hospitals.

“Looking at the research unpolished is very healthy and it’s good for any person with Non-Communicable Diseases, diabetes or gastritis and other diseases,” Mr Pratap said.

“Also we want to introduce rice flour. We have tested it to make bread, and its turn out to be a good product. For the rice flour we are targeting the bakeries for making bread.

“We are planning to launch the products in a month’s time in Labasa but distributed around Fiji.”

The company is currently working on the packaging designs of the new products which are being done locally.

Pricing of the products has not been finalised.
